NON-OUI: Here are flowers
After days of rain and darkness in Madrid, arriving in Belvés and seeing the town in bloom is ecstatic. The tulips planted in the garden of La Moissie, the lilacs along the road, the wisteria invading the facades.
One day, strolling through the Saint-Cyprien market, I found a book at one of the stalls: N’abîmons plus le Périgord. In order to preserve the architecture of the Périgord area (where La Moissie is located), this book offers instructions to follow, for example: the construction of a wall, the details of crowning chimneys with tiles from the region, or arguments for correctly placing windows on the facade. It’s a bit like a style guide, discarding the recommended options with hand-drawn examples and a few photos. It says: What you’ll find in this area and what you won’t.
Following this logic and emulating the same graphic language, I set out to draw objects and things you don’t find in Belvés, and in return, others that you do: flowers. NON: an elevator, a subway station, or a can of Coca-Cola. In return, OUI: It seemed like a fair resource to hyperbole flowers, as an omnipresent object in this town during spring. Tulips, daisies, ranunculus, anemones.
I found some stands on the outskirts of town, which are used only once a year, and with the help of Candela and Macarena, we installed the drawings in different parts of Belvés. Like a message, a sign of entry, and exit. Here you’ll only find flowers.
Rafa helped me with the photos (and everything else); some of them will be published in a few weeks. Many thanks to Tono for his support and for being so generous in lending me materials and opening his studio. I really enjoyed drawing these flowers.
